Aims, contents and method of the course

Exercises are solved to practise and deepen the subject of the accompanying lecture
course.

Assessment and permitted materials

The assessment is based on written homework, tests, as well as participation and
presentations at the blackboard.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimum requirements:
• Each week, a problem sheet is provided (in total 13 sheets) with three exercises
for which the students submit written solutions via Moodle. At least 24 exercises
have to be uploaded which show a meaningful effort towards a solution.
• 50 percent of the points from graded contributions
• active participation (maximally two sessions can be missed without an excuse)
Graded contributions:
• Each week there will be a short test on the subject of the preceding session, on
which one can obtain up to 10 points. The ten best results will enter the final grade
(i.e. maximally 100 points).
• Presentations at the blackboard and class participation are graded, maximally 12
points can be obtained in this way. The lecturer can require that submitted
solutions are presented on the blackboard.
The maximal total number of points is 112. (The submitted solutions of the
homework assignments constitute only a minimum requirement, but do not enter the
final grade.)
Grading key:
• less than 56 points: 5
• at least 56 points: 4
• at least 70 points: 3
• at least 84 points: 2
• at least 98 points: 1
