Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The focus is analyze to from different perspectives how successful women working in physics are influenced by geographical, economic and cultural conditions. This should serve as guidance on how to design one´s own path to a successful career with international visibility.

We will survey examples of highly internationally reputed women in theoretical and experimental Physics and we will aim at understanding that the unbalanced presence of men and women in this field is not only a matter of numbers. We will emphasize on acquiring competence levels that allow women to be successful in selection processes on the basis of excellence.

In this seminar we discuss topics like the glass ceiling, the impostor syndrome, unconscious bias, and other relevant matters that do not only have an effect on the career of female physicist. Therefore, from the experience in previous years the input from all students is extremely valuable and we expect to develop awareness tailored to the environment where we are. Women are unrepresented in Physics as well as other minorities. However, each working place has its own behavioral pattern, and this is why we analyze the in-house and countrywide situation rather than merely looking at the numbers worldwide. This seminar is to be held in English.
