Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course will provide an introduction to relativistic quantum field theory.
Topics include:
- quantization of free scalar, Dirac and electromagnetic fields;
- interacting fields, perturbation theory and elementary processes;
- loops and renormalization.
Exercise classes are an essential part of the course and attending them is strongly recommended.

Assessment and permitted materials

The exam will be a written "Modulprüfung" containing both theory questions and computational exercises. Neither notes nor textbooks will be allowed during the exam.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Prerequisites for the course: Classical Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Quantum Mechanics. (Optional/recommended: Introduction to Particle Physics.)
In order to pass the exam, a student has to score at least 50 percent of the points.

All topics discussed in the lecture notes as well as in the exercise classes.
