Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The lab course nanotechnology includes a selection of representative experimental methods and materials:
- Ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) spectroscopy of nanometer-thick magnetic layers
- Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA) of nanostructured materials
- Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) preparation and analysis of nano-materials

Assessment and permitted materials

Prüfungsimmanente Lehrveranstaltung.
Assessment of the preparation and implementation of the experiments, assessment of the independently written protocols. Permitted aids: own results, specialist literature, instructions, software for data analysis and presentation.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimum requirement:
- Compulsory attendance
- Understanding and active participation in conducting the experiments
- Mandatory submission of 4 lab protocols

The assessment involves a point-based system. A maximum of 10 points can be earned for each of the four experiments. A positive assessment requires at least 5 points for each experiment.

Points are earned according to
- active participation in meetings/discussions
- independent preparation of the experiments,
- answering questions about the experiment,
- active collaboration and implementation of the experiments and
- the preparation of the protocols.

Assessment standard:
- Understanding of experiments and physical principles: 50% of total points
- Protocols: 50% of total points

The grading key for assessment is:
Very good (grade 1): 100.00% – 87.00%
Good (grade 2): 86.99% – 75.00%
Satisfactory (grade 3): 74.99% – 63.00%
Sufficient (grade 4): 62.99% – 50.00%
Not sufficient (grade 5): 49.99% – 0.00%

Examination topics

Independent preparation using specialist literature, manuals, ...; active participation in carrying out different task necessary for the successful completion of the experiments; data evaluation and critical discussion; writing of lab protocols.
