Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
1. Definition, classification, availability, demands 2. Isotropic Materials: linear optics, effects and devices (dielectric and metallic mirrors, multilayer systems, interferometers, coherence) 3. Anisotropic crystalline materials: concepts of linear (birefringence, Jones-calculus, Stokes-Müller calculus, phase matching) and nonlinear effects (SHG, amplification, two- and four-wave mixing, phase conjugation) 4. Organic materials (polymers, liquid crystals and composites) and glasses 5. Metamaterials (negative refractive index) and photonic crystals; artificial, periodic structures
