Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The lecture will cover advanced topics in theoretical Particle Physics with the goal of introducing the Path Integral Formalism, the Quantum Field Theory of the strong interaction, the Standard Model of Particle Physics with the Higgs mechanism, and some elementary predictions for experiments.

Topics include among others:

- The path integral formalism
- Non-abelian gauge theories
- Quantization of non-abelian gauge theories
- Dimensional Regularization
- Renormalization of Quantum Chromodynamics
- Elementary processes in QCD; infrared divergences
- The Electroweak Standardmodel
- Elementary processes of the SM and phenomenology at hadron colliders

Assessment and permitted materials

Presentation in class and final written exam.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The content of the lecture builds on advanced knowledge of Particle Physics and Quantum Theory. The content of the Particle Physics, Quantum Mechanics, and Advanced Particle Physics lectures are thus mandatory prerequisits.

Grades will be given based on presentation of homework in class, and a final, written exam. The exercises complement and extend/deepen the content of the lecture and are hence indispensable for a positive evaluation.
