Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Assessment and permitted materials
One written exam (test) + Oral presentations and participation during the lesson plus “crosslists”.For the time that University of Vienna is in emergency operation:
Online activity the Moodle-platform of each exercise class (cross-list and upload of solutions) + one take-home test.
Online activity the Moodle-platform of each exercise class (cross-list and upload of solutions) + one take-home test.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
In total 100 points can be achieved:
• 30 points times the ratio of exercises marked as prepared (in the crosslist) over the total number of exercises.
• 30 points for the written test
• 40 points for the quality of presentations and participation in discussions.Apart from their attendance, participants have to accumulate at least
• a minimum of 50 points overall, as well as
• at least half (50%) of the exercises crossed in the “crosslist”
to pass the course. If these requirements are met, the grade is determined according to the following scheme:
• 50-62 Punkte: Genügend (4)
• 63-75 Punkte: Befriedigend (3)
• 76-88 Punkte: Gut (2)
• 89-100 Punkte: Sehr gut (1)In order to pass the course with a positive grade, the course may not be missed on more than two occasions. In case of absence, a participant may submit written problem solutions (via e-mail or in person) prior to the exercise session. These solutions will be counted in the participant’s „crosslist“.Attendance at the test is mandatory. Students are not allowed to use notes or electronic devices during the test. For the time that University of Vienna is in emergency operation:
The crosses that each student marks in the cross list are checked against the uploaded exercises. Crosses are counted as usual.
From every solution uploaded by the students, one exercise will be checked at random. Students will get “performance points” (max 1 per sheet), depending on the level of tidiness, correctness and completeness of the exercise. In the end of the emergency operation period, the sum of the “performance points” will be converted in regular points (by dividing the "performance points" over the total number of exercise sheets in the semester and by multiplying the result by 40).
These points will be counted as part of the 40 points of the class presentation activity.
The take-home test will be available through the Moodle platform between 13:00 of the 29th of May (Friday) to 13:00 of the 30th of May (Saturday). Within this time frame, students will have to solve the test and upload their solution on the Moodle page of the exercise group in which they are enrolled. The maximum score for the test is 30 points. Students should solve the test individually; the use of notes during the test is allowed.

Participants have to solve a set of exercises prior to each session, which can be found on the Moodle-platform (https://moodle.univie.ac.at). At the beginning of the exercise session, students have to mark the exercises that they have prepared and that are willing to present and discuss at the blackboard (“crosslist” system). Participants can be selected to present one of the exercises they prepared. During the presentation of an exercise, members of the audience who have also marked it as prepared may be asked to answer related questions. For the time that University of Vienna is in emergency operation:
Each week a cross-list is available online on the Moodle-platform of each exercise class. An assignment page is also available, where students are supposed to upload their solutions (for exact deadlines please see Moodle page of each exercise group). The cross-list in combination with the submitted solutions are used for grading.
