Aims, contents and method of the course
The course gives an introduction to the basic concepts of neutron optics. Starting with the equation of motion for light, we derive analogies for slow neutrons Next we discuss the major optical phenomena of diffraction or reflection. An important issue of the course will be the generation of thick holographic gratings for cold neutrons via the photo-neutronrefractive effect and related materials. Coherence properties of matter waves, dynamical diffraction theory (for light and neutrons) and the basics of neutron interferometry conclude the course.
