Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Students learn how to handle measuring, data processing, uncertainties and errors within simple experiments. Moreover they acquire various basic experimental skills, including scientific writing, citing and safety in laboratories.
This VU is a combination of lecture and lab course.
In SoSe2020, 9 Units will be available as video stream (see Moodle-course).
From April, 21st every group has the same timescale every Tuesday:
10:00-10:30: Online-test about the unit before
10:30-15:00: self-study oft he present unit
students can therefore use the script, streaming-videos of the lecture, the ppt-slides and a self-assesment-test
15:00-16:00: If students have questions, they can join a Jitsi-Meeting with a lecturer
3 Experimental Units followed by the final exam days are organised in a blocked 3-week-presence phase in July or September.
(Update 12.5.2020:) Changes in Organisation due to COVID-19 prevention: Dean and Rector approved the following reorganisation: For the blocked presence-phase, Groups are splitted half. First half-group has presence-courses on Tue./Thu. from August 18th – 27th separated in 2 lecture rooms (Ernst-Mach and Josef-Stefan). Second half-group has presence-courses on Tue./Thu. from September 1st – 10th separated in 2 lecture rooms (Ernst-Mach and Josef-Stefan). The final exam is for all students on September 15th (second trial on September 17th) spread on a couple on lecture halls in the faculty building. You can find a detailed schedule in the Moodle-Course /Announcments.
The schedule is fixed and can only be interrupted or cancelled by another pandemic shutdown. Students, who cannot or do not want to attend this course, can sign out themselves without any consequences until June, 30th. In SoSe2020, participation-tests are done online in the Moodle-course

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

You must attend course untis 1,3,5,6,9,11 and 13.
You must write 4 reports. You will need two of them printed on paper for the report-workshop in Unit 11 (Bestimmung der Erdbeschleunigung mit dem Fadenpendel und Serien- und Parallelschaltungen im Gleich-und Wechselstromkreis). You must submit two other reports before the beginning of unit 12 (Grundlagen elektrischer Messungen und Bestimmung der Dichte von Quadern gleicher Grundfläche).
You must pass the final exam (minimum 6 p). If you fail the exam, there is one chance to repeat it.

In SoSe2020, you cannot attend any course until June, 30th. Timelines for the reports are adapted to the organisation of the blocked 3-week-presence phase, see Moodle-course.
