Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Students can perform and evaluate simple mechanical and electrical measurements. They master the handling of systematic errors, Type-A and Type-B measurement uncertainties, and combined measurement uncertainties (error propagation calculation). They can perform linear and other regression functions as well as simple statistical tests. They have basic knowledge in computer-aided analysis and evaluation of measurement data and are able to present their results according to good scientific practice. They have basic knowledge of copyright and citation rules, as well as laboratory safety.
The course is a lecture combined with exercises. There will be individual, pure lecture units, others that combine and alternate lecture and exercise parts, and exclusive exercise units. Two lecture units (2nd and 10th unit) will be conducted as eLearning.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Attendance is mandatory for all units that include exercise elements (units 1, 3, 5, 6, 9, 11, and 13).
Each student must submit 2 reports/analyses (Gravimeter and series and parallel circuits in DC and AC circuits) on Moodle by unit 11 - Workshop on computer-aided data analysis and presentation, and also bring printed copies.
For 2 other experiments (Basics of electrical measurements and determination of the density of cuboids with the same base area), analysis results must be submitted on Moodle before the start of unit 13.
The final test must be passed (at least 6 points). If a student fails on the first attempt, they can retake the test one week later.

Grading Scale:
Grade 1: 21-20 points
Grade 2: 19-18 points
Grade 3: 14-17 points
Grade 4: 11-13 points
Grade 5: 0-10 points
