Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of this lecture is to introduce advanced QCD concepts which are useful to apply QCD at lower energies. After recapitulating basic perturbative tools like regularisation, renormalisation and the renormalisation group, more advanced methods will be introduced and discussed. These include dispersion relations, the operator product expansion (OPE), QCD sum rules, flavour symmetry, chiral symmetry, chiral perturbation theory, anomalies and the strong CP problem. With the aid of the OPE, the large-order behaviour of the perturbative series and renormalons will also be investigated.

Assessment and permitted materials

Presentation in class and final written exam.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Familiarity of the concepts and good control over methods discussed in the lecture-exercise (VUE).
