Thermodynamics, laws of thermodynamics, entropy, phase transitions, Boltzmann equation, transport phenomena, classical statistical mechanics, quantum statistics, Fermigas, Bosegas, Bose-Einstein condensation, superfluidity
Assessment and permitted materials
Oral examination
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Concepts of thermodynamics, notion of entropy, explanation of phase transitions, explanation of transport phenomena, understanding of statistical methods, relevance of quantum physics to explain properties of materials.
Examination topics
The understanding of basic phenomena in thermodynamics is essential for their explanation by statistical mechanics.
