Aims, contents and method of the course

Erwerb und Vertiefung von Grundkompetenzen im Stoffgebiet der Thermodynamik und Statistischen Mechanik.

Assessment and permitted materials

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

12-14 Punkte: 3 ("Befriedigend")
15-17 Punkte: 2 ("Gut")
18-20 Punkte: 1 ("Sehr gut")

Aims, contents and method of the course

Thermodynamics and Statistical Physics

Assessment and permitted materials

Exercise sheets, number of solved exercises, blackboard presentation, one test at the end of the semester

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The assessment is based on the results of a test, the performance in the presentation and the number of ticked examples on the exercise sheets.
Every week a task sheet is provided, the tasks of which must be worked out independently.
Each example that has been worked out must be ticked in the list provided on the course's Moodle page by 12:00 on the day of the exercise at the latest. If less than 60% of the examples dealt with in the exercise course are ticked, the course is considered to have been failed. Active participation in the exercises is also required to pass the course (no more than two absences without an excuse). Otherwise, points are awarded for the number of crosses according to the following scheme:
60-68% uploaded: 1 point
69-76% uploaded: 2 points
77-84% uploaded: 3 points
85-92% uploaded: 4 points
92-100% uploaded: 5 points
In addition, the presentation of a task in the exercise can be rated with between 0 and 5 points, depending on the performance.
A written test will be held towards the end of the course at a date that has yet to be fixed, which, depending on the performance, can bring in a further 0-10 points.
The course is considered failed if fewer than 10 points are achieved in this way.
In general, the grade is calculated using the following key:
0-9 points: 5 ("Unsatisfactory")
10-11 points: 4 ("Sufficient")
12-14 points: 3 ("Satisfactory")
15-17 points: 2 ("Good")
18-20 points: 1 ("Excellent")

Aims, contents and method of the course

Thermodynamics and Statistical Physics

Assessment and permitted materials

Exercise sheets, number of solved exercises, blackboard presentation, one test at the end of the semester

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Each week, a task sheet will be provided, and students are expected to independently complete the assigned tasks. Answers must be uploaded in a single document on the course's Moodle page by 12:00 on the day of the class at the latest.

During class, students present their answers on the blackboard. The rest of the class can ask questions, participate in discussion about correctness, alternative approaches, etc. Dynamic participation from all students is crucial. Consistent attendance is also required to pass the course, with no more than two unexcused absences.

The course is graded based on three factors:

-Results of a written test at the end of the semester (10 points),
-Effective communication and presentation of exercises on the blackboard (5 points), and
-Uploaded answers to the worked tasks from the weekly task sheets (5 tasks).

If fewer than 60% of the tasks are uploaded, the course is considered failed. Otherwise, points are awarded as follows:

60-68% uploaded: 1 point
69-76% uploaded: 2 points
77-84% uploaded: 3 points
85-92% uploaded: 4 points
93-100% uploaded: 5 points
Presenting a task during class can earn between 0 and 5 points, depending on the clarity of presentation methodology and the explanation of steps followed. More than one student can present the same exercise if a different approach has been used and time allows.

A written test towards the end of the course can bring 0-10 points. The course is considered failed if fewer than 10 points are collected. The overall grade is determined using the following scale:

0-9 points: 5 ("Unsatisfactory")
10-11 points: 4 ("Sufficient")
12-14 points: 3 ("Satisfactory")
15-17 points: 2 ("Good")
18-20 points: 1 ("Excellent")
