Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Prerequisites:

Electrodynamics, Quantum Mechanics, Particle Physics 1.

Syllabus:

1) Loops and renormalization (with emphasis on Quantum Electrodynamics).

2) Deep inelastic lepton-nucleon scattering and parton model. Quantum
Chromodynamics.

3) Glashow-Weinberg-Salam model of electroweak interactions. Higgs mechanism.

Assessment and permitted materials

In order to be awarded the lecture certificate, students have to
participate in the exercise class and pass an oral exam. To be awarded the
exercise certificate, students have to work out at least 50 percent of the
problems contained in the assigned homework sheets. Especially for this
course, exercises are the natural completion of the lectures and students
are therefore strongly encouraged to attend the exercise classes and work
through all proposed homework problems.
