Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The aim of the course is to obtain an understanding of the quantum properties of light via solving related exercises.Topics include: review of classical optics, linear and nonlinear optics; lasers and cavities; photon statistics; nonclassical states of light; cavity quantum electrodynamics (cavity QED); quantum optical control of matter (trapped ions, quantum optomechanics);
Assessment and permitted materials
To receive credit for the module (lecture + PUE exercises) please consult the criteria for: 260100 VO Classical and Quantum Optics (2020S)The exercises (PUE) are a continuous assessment course intended as preparation for the module exam. Registration for the PUE is not mandatory but recommended. Note: Participation in the PUE is only possible with a valid registration for the course. Upon registration, attendance is obligatory. Deregistration from this course is possible until Tuesday, March 31st, 2020 11:59 pm. Without exception, all students registered after this deadline can take part in the PUE and will be graded according to the PUE assessment criteria. The PUE grade does NOT affect the module exam grade.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The grade for the PUE is determined from:1) Points achieved in a written exam towards the end of the semester, which serves as preparation for the module exam (1.5h, max. 50 points).2) Number of submissions of the homework exercises (upload via Moodle). You have to demonstrate a serious attempt to solve them. (max. 50 points).For positive evaluation, at least 25 points have to be achieved in each of the two criteria mentioned above. If that is the case, the final grade will be determined from the sum of the points as:50-62 Points: Genügend
63-75 Points: Befriedigend
76-87 Points: Gut
88-100 Points: Sehr Gut
