Aims, contents and method of the course
Atomic physics of exotic atoms - from the hydrogen atom to the exotic atom. Production of exotic atoms at particle accelerators. Muonic atoms for the investigation of exotic atomic as well as molecular physics and weak interaction. Hadronic atoms - especially pionic and kaonic hydrogen atoms - in theory and experiment. Introduction into recent theoretical access to low-energy QCD, especially quantum field theoretical description and chiral perturbation theory. Precision measurements of observables due to strong interaction in exotic atoms. Extraction of meson-nucleon scattering lengths. Experimental study of chiral symmetry breaking. Experiments with antimatter atoms.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Introduction into the physics of exotic atoms. Description of the Theory of the simplest exotic systems and the production of exotic atoms at particle accelerators. Insight in studies on fundamental interactions and symmetries with exotic atoms using state-of the-art detector techniques. Overview about recent experimental and theoretical investigations and discussion of new topics in experiment and theory.
