Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Students will deepen their knowledge in aerosol measurement techniques. The course covers a selection of in-situ and remote sensing measurement techniques and data evaluation methods.

Measurement techniques: Advanced lidar techniques (Raman, HSRL, depolarization) and aerosol measurements by satellites (including polarimetry); Cloud condensation nuclei counter; Fluorescence measurement techniques; Optical spectrometers and array probes used in airborne platforms; Current topics related to airborne microplastic particles and their measurement.

With respect to the interpretation of measurements, optical modeling and machine learning will be introduced and applied.

The course consists of lectures and associated exercises where the acquired knowledge will be applied.

Study aims
In this course students learn to:

- Explain physical principles of modern aerosol measurement techniques
- Describe the application of the measurement techniques in the context of current research questions
- Apply sophisticated data analysis methods
- Search for relevant literature and deepen their knowledge independently

Assessment and permitted materials
