Aims, contents and method of the course
The lecture is intended for students as preparation for a diploma work in photonics and neutron optics, respectively. Contents: tensor algebra and analysis, tensors for the description of macroscopic properties of matter (tensors of electric and magnetic susceptibility, stress and strain tensor, piezoelectric tensor, elastic tensor, thermodynamic relations among the tensors, tensors of thermal and electric conductivity, optical activity).
