Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The seminar aims to complement and deepen the knowledge of nuclear and isotope physics with a focus on applications of methods in nuclear physics. Special emphasis will be placed on connections to other fields in physics. After two presentations of about 20 minutes (interposed questions encouraged), questions, problems and ambiguities of both content and formal nature (presentation technique) are to be discussed. The following topics can be chosen for the presentations: Accelerators, interaction of radiation with matter, radiation detectors, instrumentation, dosimetry and radiation protection, medical applications, ion beam methods, dating methods, and from current topics in nuclear physics. Participants' own proposals or interviews with subject-related research groups are also encouraged. Students will learn to find, read and understand scientific literature and how to present these papers.
Assessment and permitted materials
Presentations on the chosen topics (content & form) and active participation in the discussion of this continuous assessment course. Aids of any kind are allowed for the preparation of the presentations.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The course grade will be composed of the evaluation of the presentations (content & form will be evaluated equally) and the active participation in the discussion of the presentations of other seminar participants and scientific literature (20% of the total grade). Discussion of the presentations will include writing down 2 take-home messages for each presentation.
Minimum requirement:
Two presentations are required for a passing grade (topics will be assigned at the seminar). Attendance at seminar classes is mandatory. Absence from more than 2 units requires a formal understandable excuse or will result in a negative grade.

Examination topics
Presentations by the students. Content presented in the seminar talks, especially that of your own presentations.
Optional for improving the grade: Short discussion of a scientific publication
