Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Elementary Particle Physics deals with understanding the smallest known building blocks of matter—quarks, leptons, and the Higgs boson—as well as the fundamental forces governing their interactions: the electromagnetic, strong, and weak interactions (excluding gravity). This lecture provides both an introduction to the theoretical foundations and a broad overview of the experimental observations that have led to the development of the so-called Standard Model of Particle Physics.

Objectives:
- Fundamental questions in elementary particle physics
- Building blocks of the Standard Model: electromagnetic, strong, and weak interactions
- Relativistic quantum mechanics and simplified elements of field theory
- Basic computational tools

Assessment and permitted materials

Course with non-continuous assessment;
The VO serves as preparation for the written module examination.
The proof of performance required for the entire module (VO + PUE, 7 ECTS) is provided by completing the written module examination. Exam modalities will be announced later.
