Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Symmetries in classical mechanics and field theory, Noether theorem, Lie groups and Lie algebras, space-time symmetries, representation theory of the rotation group, representation theory of the Lorentz group, representation theory of the Poincare group, discrete symmetries, internal symmetries, Wigner-Weyl vs Nambu-Goldstone realization of a symmetry in quantum field theory, Goldstone theorem, spontaneously broken global and local gauge symmetries, chiral symmetry in QCD, anomalies in quantum field theories

Assessment and permitted materials

Presence in exercise classes is compulsory, continuous activity (presentations at black board and participation in discussions), sufficient number of correctly solved home work problems (absolute minimum: 50 percent)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

To achieve the ability to solve group theoretical problems related to particle physics.

Examination topics

Solving home work problems and presenting the solutions in class.
