Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Nowadays, since computer simulations form an integral part of almost every branch of research, numerical programming is a prerequisite for the efficiency and success of such methods. In this lecture, the basics for problem analysis, development of efficient algorithms and implementation in computer codes are presented. The programming itself is done in Fortran 90, a procedural, modular programming language that is widely used in the scientific community. The basics of this language are taught in the lecture and applied during the practical course.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written exam at the end of the lecture

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Basic knowledge of operating systems and standard programs, interactive use of PCs, shell commands in UNIX/LINUX, numbers in binary representation, procedural programming, basic knowledge of Fortran 90, input and output, recursion, libraries, analysis and writing of simple programs (sorting, integration, differentiation)

Examination topics

Complying with the type of the lecture. Electronic slides and scriptum are available.
