Aims, contents and method of the course

This is a basic course in Linear Algebra, where amoungst others the following topics are treated: matrices, vector spaces, linear equations, determinants, linear mappings, operations with vectors, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, diagonalisation of matrices. Thereby emphasis is given to certain topics (also with regard to applications) which are relevant for science students. Problems and obtained results are illustrated with examples (in particular from physics and geometry), connections to

Linear Algebra has become an essential part of the mathematical background required of mathematicians, physicists and other scientists. This requirement reflects the importance and wide applications of the subject matter. The aim of this course (and the introductory seminar) is to enable the students to use their acquired knowledge and skills in their future studies and profession.
