Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Students deepen their knowledge and skills in the field of experimental aerosol physics. Under supervision but independently, experiments on current environmental issues are designed and carried out by deploying the most commonly used aerosol instrumentation. The experimental results are discussed and interpreted also in the context of the state-of-the-art literature.
In preparation for the experiments, students prepare presentations to gain knowledge and understanding of the theoretical and physical concepts used throughout the course. Calculations or numerical simulations related to the experiments will be performed under supervision to get a better understanding of the experiment results.
The results of the experiments and simulations have to be evaluated, and have to be documented in a written protocol. In addition, the presentation of the results in form of an oral talk is an essential contribution to the final assessment.
Note: It is recommended to choose this course only if the lecture 260010 VO "Aerosol Physics - Physics of Disperse Systems" or the module WPF 9 "Aerosol Physics" in the Bachelor Degree Physics at the University of Vienna has been completed.

Assessment and permitted materials

Continuous assessment course.
Preparatory and experimental work written protocols and final presentation.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimum requirement
- Compulsory attendance
- Understanding the chosen measurement methods and identifying the environmental relevance of the data
- Protocols and presentations are mandatory
Assessment Criteria
- Preparation and implementation of experiments: 30% of total points
- Protocols: 40% of total points
- Final presentation: 30% of total Points

In order to attain a positive grade at least 50.00% of the total points must be achieved.

The grading key for assessment is:
Very good: 100.00% - 87.00%
Good: 86.99% - 75.00%
Satisfactory: 74.99% - 63.00%
Sufficient: 62.99% - 50.00%
Not sufficient: 49,99% - 0,00%
