Aims, contents and method of the course
Short historical overview, basic principles of quantum theory (probability amplitude, addition and multiplication of amplitudes), elementary wave mechanics, one-dimensional problems (free particle, motion in an external potential, harmonic oscillator), spin 1/2, magnetic resonance, axioms of quantum theory (Hilbert space, observables, spectrum, pure and mixed states, time evolution), three-dimensional problems, symmetries in quantum mechanics, angular momentum, addition of angular momnenta, particle in a central field, hydrogen atom, identical particles, atomic structure, chemical binding, perturbation theory, variational methods, scattering theory.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Clear understanding of the elementary principles of quantum theory and their application to simple physical systems. Ability to solve simple theoretical problems in nonrelativistic quantum mechanics.
