Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Random walk and binomial distribution, statistic of systems of particles, thermal interaction and representative ensembles, quantum statistics of ideal gases;
Binding of atoms and molecules, crystal structure and reciprocal space, specific heat of solids, phonons, normal modes of crstal lattice, electrons in solids;
Advanced materials (low dimensional solids, liquid crystals, polymers, 'smart-materials', nanomaterials).

Assessment and permitted materials

Written exam at the end of the semester.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Knowledge on physical statistics including quantum statistics, structure and properties of solids, experimental methods in solid state physics, introduction to modern materials.

Examination topics

Oral lecture (blackboard) with additional electronic media (transparencies and ppt presentation) and possibility for interaction with the students.
