Exkursion in die Schiffbautechnische Versuchsanstalt, Brigittenauer Lände 256, 1200 Wien, am Donnerstag, 5. 6. 2014. Treffpunkt U-Bahnhof Heiligenstadt, Vorhalle Richtung Karl-Marx-Hof, 13 Uhr 30, Abmarsch 13 Uhr 40. (oder 14 Uhr an der SVA). Auch Hörer früherer Semester oder Interessierte sind eingeladen, werden aber gebeten, sich bei mir bis 1. 6. per Email anzumelden.

Aims, contents and method of the course

The various physical aspects of an environmentally friendly method of transport are treated: Mechanics, hydrodynamics, theory of waves, materials science.

Oral examination

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

To get a thorough understanding of the mechanisms which move a wind-driven craft, based on hydrodynamics, materials science, theory of oscillations etc.

Examination topics

Lecture series relying heavily on graphic material presented via data projector. Interaction with students (discussions) are encouraged. There will be an excursion to the Vienna Model Basin Ltd.
