Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Aims: Consolidation and practice of the content and concepts of the parallel lecture through independent preparation of solutions to tasks.

Contents: Functions, vectors, complex numbers, differentiation, integration, partial derivatives, differential equations (separation of variables and exponential approach), fields, gradient, divergence, rotation, curve integral, multiple integrals, theorems of Gauss and Stokes.

Method: Blackboard presentation and discussion of the proposed solutions to the tasks worked on.

Assessment and permitted materials

The PUE is a course with continuous assessment and serves to prepare for the module examination. The performance control is based on weekly ticking of the respective solved tasks, presentation of solutions on the board, cooperation and participation in task discussions.

Notes: Registration for the PUE is not mandatory, but is strongly recommended. Just like manual skills, mathematical competences can only be acquired or improved through independent practice. Under no circumstances is passive participation in the courses sufficient! In addition, the contents of the PUE are a preparation for possible types of questions in the final module examination.

Participation is binding when you register for the PUE. Cancellation from this course is possible until: see above. All students registered after this deadline will be graded according to the assessment criteria of the PUE.
The grade of the PUE is not included in the grade of the module examination. The proof of performance required for the module (VO + PUE) is provided by the completion of the module examination.

For the written module examination, see VO 267404 "Introduction to physical calculation methods".

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Learning basic mathematical tools that are absolutely necessary in physics studies.

Minimum requirements:

a) Attendance (max. 3 absences)

b) At least 50% of the tasks must have been ticked over the entire semester.

c) at least two successful panel presentations (only one if there are a large number of participants)

Assessment standard:

A total of 80 points can be achieved, of which 12 points are due to attendance (1 point per unit), 24 points to the ticker list and 44 points to the blackboard presentations.

If the above minimum requirements are met, the following grade scale applies:

70 to 80 points: Very good ("Sehr gut")
60 to 69 points: Good ("Gut")
50 to 59 points: Satisfactory ("Befriedigend")
40 to 49 points: Sufficient ("Genügend")
0 to 39 points: Failed ("Nicht genügend")

Examination topics

Die zu bearbeitenden Aufgaben werden laufend via Moodle bekanntgegeben.
