Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Students will learn the fundamental concepts of quantum mechanics, molecular spectroscopy, and statistical thermodynamics and will be able to apply this knowledge to chemical problems.
The content includes: quantization of energy (black body, atomic spectra); interference; fundamentals of quantum mechanics (operators, postulates, Schrödinger equation); particles in a box, harmonic oscillators, and rigid rotators; symmetry, character tables, selection rules; rotational spectra, vibrational spectra (infrared and Raman spectroscopy); fundamentals of statistical thermodynamics (distribution function, Boltzmann distribution, partition function).
