Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Content restricted to those areas, which are essentially unaffected by chemical processes and for whose understanding it is crucial to perform lecture experiments: mechanics, oscillations and waves, electricity and magnetism, optics; an introductory short introduction to the principles of quantum mechanics is also contained; previous mathematical school knowlegde is helpful, the repetitorium in mathematics at the begin of the semester is recommended;
lecture course with lecture experiments and and active participation of the students in solving coceptual problems, in addition reinforcement of mathematical methods and the lecture topics, performance test for training course: written tests. Further comment: learning efforts during the semester enable to understand the topics better because later parts must rely on earlier ones; in addition increasing knowlegde makes it possible to ask additional question at the end of the lectures. It is recommandend to choose the Methods of Physics (training course) as free elective course.

Assessment and permitted materials

Performance test: Oral exam

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Knowledge of fundamentals and methods of classical experimental physics, comprehensive understanding of central results and of the necessary mathematical formalism

Examination topics

Lecture course with experiments and participation of the students
