270069 VO Selectivity concepts in modern environmental analysis (2010S)

Due to new national and international regulations the challenges for modern trace analyses of environmental and food samples have increased significantly during the past few years. This lecture gives an overview about all modern analytical techniques that enable sufficient detection selectivity and sensitivity to meet these demands in a proper way.

This includes selective sample preparation techniques enabling isolation and enrichment of environmental relevant target analytes:
-) selective sample extraction
-) isolation and enrichment of target analytes; removal of matrix components

The second part of the lecture covers enormous possibilities but also the restrictions of modern mass spectrometry (MS) that developed since the 1990ties to a universal detection tool in environmental and food analysis. The following issues will be included:
-) overview over modern MS-instrumentation und its on-line coupling to chromatographic separation techniques in the context to environmental analysis
-) automation of MS-Systems for high throughput analysis of complex environmental and food samples
-) on-line/in-line sample preparation techniques prior to MS detection
-) possibilities and restrictions of analyte detection by mass spectrometry
-) examples from environmental and food analysis, e. g. trace analysis of mycotoxins, pesticides, etc.
