Aims, contents and method of the course
Students know the essential basics of statistical and computer-aided evaluation and presentation of data sets as they occur in the study and everyday scientific life in chemistry. They have the practical skills to successfully evaluate measurement and experimental data. Students have basic digital skills. The contents include: Mathematical basics of statistics (mean values, standard deviation, error calculation, regression analysis, introduction to hypothesis testing); use of spreadsheet and data analysis software; creation of diagrams; basic concepts of programming in a higher programming language (variables, conditional statement, loops, lists, data input and output).
Assessment and permitted materials
During the exercises, students are presented with exercises that they have to complete on site. The solutions and implementations will then be checked by the exercise instructors. The exercise instructors will also ask questions about the implementation during the review. Plagiarism, attempts to deceive and copying from other participants will not be tolerated and will always be graded with 0 points. To successfully pass the course, students must achieve at least 50% of the points from all exercises. Please bring to the exercises your laptop!!!
