Aims, contents and method of the course

Nomenclature, geometry of complexes, isomerism, symmetry (symmetry elements, symmetry operations, point groups), ligand field theory (octahedron, tetrahedron, square planar), ligand field stabilization energy, Jahn-Teller distortion, spectrochemical series, high and low spin complexes, stability of complexes, reactions at the metal center, reaction mechanisms, redox processes in solutions, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), bioinorganic chemistry

Assessment and permitted materials

An exam with open questions. A periodic table and the point group table will be provided and a calculator may be used.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

1 - 88-100%, 2 - 76-88%, 3 - 64-76%, 4 - 51-64%, 5 - 0-51%
