appreciate and discuss the importance of cellular energetics for various cellular features
contents and method of the course
All living systems require a continual supply of energy and are therefore out of equilibrium. Here we have a look at recent developments
in cellular energy production (aerobic and anaerobic respiration, and photosynthesis),
energy consumption by various processes,
and the interplay between cellular energetics and cell biology
A special focus will be put on how mathematical modelling and nonequilibrium thermodynamics and how it contributes to our understanding.
