Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Students will learn basic and advanced concepts of organic stereochemistry:
- symmetry, asymmetry and chirality (concepts, definitions, examples)
- central, axcial and facial chirality (examples)
- racemates, enantiomers, diastereomers - properties and purity (ee, de), analytical and quantitative methods (chiral resolution)
- determination of the absolute configuration of enantiopure compounds
- concepts and examples of stereodifferentiating reactions (Izumi-Tai nomenclature)
- simple diastereo-differentiating reactions
- induced (enantioselective) diastereo-differentiating reactions
- enantio-differentiating reactions

Assessment and permitted materials

short tests (homework and on site) - being discussed during the seminar
short oral lecture (powerpoint) at the end of the seminar

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

continuous presence (at least 6 times)
2x written short tests - 50%
1x oralpresentation - 50%
All parts (two tests and one oral lecture) have to be passed and will be graded independently.
