Aims, contents and method of the course

2 hours (2 credits), lecture
F214: elective field of concentration analytical chemistry
Content: Aspects of sample preparation, fluorescence labelling, circular dichroism, surface plasmon resonance, chromatographic separation technology for biopolymers (size exclusion, affinity, hydrophobe interaction, ion exchange), electrophoretic methods (HPCE, isoelectric focussing, gel electrophoresis, 2D-GE, electroblotting).
Sequencing techniques: protein sequencing via Edman degradation, c-terminal sequencing, mass spectrometric techniques in protein sequencing, analysis of post translational modifikations, glycan analysis.

Assessment and permitted materials

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Diskussion of modern strategies for the determination and characterization of peptides, proteins, glycoproteins, carbohydrates and nucleic acids, focussing on chromatographic, electrophoretic and mass spectrometric methods.
