Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Assessment and permitted materials
Written exam.
Elucidation of the structure of a small organic molecule from the 1D and 2D NMR spectra and answering questions about it. The documents from the course and relevant literature can be used.
Dates for the exams will be discussed during the lecture.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Minimum requirement:
25 points out of a maximum of 50 possible points in the written exam.Rating Scale:
50.00 - 43.75 points -- Sehr Gut (Very good performance with knowledge of (almost) all methods, contexts and terminology)
43.50 - 37.50 Points -- Gut (Certain uncertainties in dealing with the topics covered in the course)
37.25 - 31.25 points -- Befriedigend (Average Exam)
31,00 - 25,00 Points -- Genügend (Considerable deficits, but just acceptable handling of the topic, see "Minimum requirement")
24,75 - 00,00 Points -- Nicht Genügend (Unacceptable handling of the topics covered in the course)

Examination topics
Documents (spectra) are provided via Moodle. A sample examination will be discussed during the course approximately one to two weeks before the first exam date.
Reading list
Documents (spectra) are provided via Moodle.
There are a number of books dealing with structure elucidation using NMR. All of these ultimately lead to the fact that molecular structures can be derived from the respective spectra. However, there is no direct reference to any of these books in the course. The purpose of the course is to develop your own solution strategies and apply them to small molecules.

The students should learn to determine structures of small organic molecules in solution from 1D and 2D NMR spectra. The NMR spectra are used as part of a PowerPoint presentation and the blackboard (online: drawing software) is used.Contents:
Determination of constitution, configuration and conformation of small organic molecules. Use of modern software for NMR spectral analysis. Interpretation of 1D NMR spectra as well as of homo- and heteronuclear 2D NMR spectra (DQF-COSY, TOCSY, HMQC, HMBC, NOESY).Method:
The interpretation of the spectra should be carried out after an introduction by the participants independently on several examples. For this purpose, spectra are provided via Moodle. The structure explanation will be discussed afterwards in the course. Visualizations are performed by Power Point presentation.
