Aims, contents and method of the course

1. Basic concepts: the Franck-Condon principle; stationary structures in electronically excited states and potential energy surfaces. 2. Beyond the Born-Oppenheimer approximation: non-adiabatic corrections and conical intersections. 3. Relaxation mechanisms in the excited states: reaction paths. 4. Time-dependent phenomena: excited-state dynamics simulations. 5. Mechanistic aspects of the excited state dynamics: competition, efficiency and selection of reaction paths, lifetimes, and relation to the ultrafast spectroscopy.
Goals: Introduction into the theoretical concepts of photodynamics and their relation to the interpretation of ultrafast spectroscopic experiments.
Evaluation: Final examination
