Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

· Applications of electrospray ionization MS, instrument design based on equipment being used
· Use of chemoaffinity techniques for the analysis of complex samples of biological origin (e.g. protein mixtures)
· Sample preparation steps, e.g. solid-phase extraction, enzymatic digestion of proteins, chemical modification
· HPLC-MS measurements and computer-assisted data analysis and interpretation

Assessment and permitted materials

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The hyphenation of high-performance separation techniques (high-performance liquid chromatography, capillary electrophoresis) with mass spectrometry has become one the most important analytical methods for the identification, structure elucidation and quantification of a broad spectrum of analytes (e.g. drugs, biomolecules as e.g. proteins, peptides, metabolites, etc.). During this course current fields of application for HPLC-MS will be demonstrated via an active involvement in ongoing research projects in the group.
