Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course deals with the theory of the molecular structures of biopolymers, the dynamics of conformational changes as well as the
mechanisms of structure formation. Two classes of biopolymer molecules will be discussed: nucleic acids and proteins.

Special emphasis is laid on theoretical principles and concepts. It will be focused on secondary and tertiary structure prediction of nucleic acids and proteins. Mathematical basics are presented to describe and computationaly analyse tertiary structures of
biomolecules. Computational methods based
on RNA secondary structure and their application in the simulation of folding dynamics are depicted.

All theoretical basics are explained on descriptive examples.

Assessment and permitted materials

Combined oral/written examination

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Conveying principles of the modeling and simulation of structure and dynamics of biopolymers at different levels of abstraction. The evaluation of the theoretical concepts will be based on a combined oral/written final exam. Active participation and results obtained will be considered for the evaluation of the practical part.
