Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

1) Chemico-physical parameters of surface waters: for example the Danube River and adjacent water bodies.
2) Der Seewinkel: a very special saline environment
3) Ionic liquids as extracting agents for heavy metals from aquous solutions.

Assessment and permitted materials

Assessment based on practical work and written protocols, final examination.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Environmental problems and solutions.

Examination topics

Environmental sampling methodology. Field measurements of environmental parameters. Water analyses: flame-AAS, TOC-TN measurements, photometric methods (cations and anions), wet chemical analyses for oxygen content and acid-binding-capacity, ion-chromatography.

Practical laboratory work is combined with seminars and discussion groups.
