Classes

ATTENTION: In winter term 2025/26 this seminar will be offered the last time. There will be no regular course units, but only the possibility to take part in the three written exams. This seminar is part of the old Bachelor's curriculum in Chemistry. As there will not be course units, students will get access to the course material via Moodle and be informed about the three exam dates. In case ONE of these exams can not be written (due to health reasons, e.g.), there will be one alternative exam date offered.
Students from the old Bachelor's curriculum (version 2011) who still need to complete the "Proseminar in Organic Chemistry" but will not be able to enroll in this course or pass it in winter term 2025/26, have to enroll in the PUE Organic Chemistry I - Basics (270070) from summer term 2026 onwards (according to the equivalence directive)

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

continous assessment of course work, accompanying proseminar to “Advanced laboratory course in Organic Chemistry”; mandatory course, Bachelor’s program in Chemistry

Aim: Broadening the participant’s knowledge on the mechanistic basics of organic chemistry. Held in parallel to the practical course “Advanced Laboratory Course in Organic Chemistry”. This proseminar’s aim is to deepen the participant’s knowledge in organic chemistry and its mechanistic backgrounds. Based on the content of the lecture “Organische Chemie I” the general reactions types (nucleophilic and electrophilic substitution, addition, elimination and rearrangements) are discussed. Different behavior of functional groups and substructures is discussed from the mechanistic point of view and examples are shown for the discussed reactions.

Assessment and permitted materials

3 written exams (40 points each), dates:

27.10. 13.00 - 15.00 Uhr in HS2
21.11. 11:00 - 12:45 Uhr in HS2

Alternative exam date: 02.02. 10.30 - 12.30 Uhr HS2

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimum criteria to register for the course: The lectures “Organische Chemie I” and “Chemisches Grundpraktikum II” as well as parallel registration for the “Advanced Laboratory Course in Organic Chemistry” are mandatory as well as attending the corresponding preliminary discussion in case of the first registration for both courses. It would be desirable to see the registered students in the preliminary discussion for the Advanced Laboratory Course in Organic Chemistry also if they this is not their first time in this course.

Grading key for the course:
Points obtained (max. 120):
