Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course will introduce basic concepts in systems biology and mathematical modelling. It will cover network reconstruction, kinetic modelling and constraint-based analysis of biological networks. In addition, you will get an introduction to COPASI to carry out simple computational analyses of various systems (metabolic networks, epidemiological models, signalling networks, gene expression...).

After successful completion of this course, students
(*) Understand the challenges in mathematical modelling
(*) Know important types of mathematical models
(*) Are able to set up simple reaction network models
(*) Run time-course and steady-state simulations in Copasi
(*) Know various data sources supporting metabolic analyses

Assessment and permitted materials

Written exam (50%) + small scale research project (35%) + home work (15% in total, 5% per home work)
