Aims, contents and method of the course

General information:

This lecture is complementary to the bioinorganic chemistry course. Metal salts and metal complexes, which are or can in future be used in medicine, will be discussed. A main goal of the lecture is to clarify how chemical properties of the metals correlate with their biological activity.

Themes:

Platinum and ruthenium complexes as drugs in chemotherapy of cancer
Gold complexes for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis
Bleomycin natural antibiotics and anticancer agent
Photodynamic therapy
RedOx drugs
Sn and Ti complexes as drugs
Vitamin B12
