Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

- Understanding of the basic ethics and philosophy of natural sciences and their application in research activities.
- Expansion of knowledge about the theory, behaviour and communication of natural sciences.
- Application of ethics to "scientific practice" and "Science & Technology Assessment".
- Learning concepts of "responsibility" and "sustainability" in science and technology.
- Acquisition of skills for the interdisciplinary normative discourse.
- Acquisition of the ability to address the major current challenges in society, environment and geopolitics with a higher degree of sustainability.
- The overall aim of this course is to contribute to a more "complete" education of young researchers and scientists as important agents of progress and as influential decision-makers in the future.

Assessment and permitted materials

Work in class, oral presentation or seminar paper.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

100 points can be achieved. These are divided into:
- Cooperation: 40 points
- Oral Presentation: 60 points
- or Seminar Paper: 60 points

The scores are awarded according to the following scheme:
- 1 (very good): 91-100 points
- 2 (good): 81-90 points
- 3 (satisfactory): 71-80 points
- 4 (sufficient): 61-70 points
- 5 (insufficient): 0-60 points

Examination topics

Logic and theory of science, scientific behaviour, conducting experiments, writing scientific publications, impact of scientific and engineering activities.
