Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course gives an introduction to the fundamentals of the interaction of soft matter at interfaces. We will discuss thermodynamics of interfaces, models for molecular adsorption, phase transitions at interfaces, and self-assembly of monolayers. Moreover, you will be introduced to several surface specific experimental techniques, like ellipsometry, signal enhancement with evanescent waves, and linear and nonlinear optical spectroscopy. These methods provide information about the molecular ordering and structural arrangement of soft matter at interfaces.

Assessment and permitted materials

Oral exam; date to be discussed with teacher.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

minimum requirement:
A positive rate requires a solid basic knowledge and understanding of the lecture content.

evaluation standards:
sehr gut - excellent performance, is able to reproduce (nearly) the entire content of the lecture, shows good understanding of the content and its context
gut - good knowledge of the lecture content with a little shakiness, basic understanding of content and context
befriedigend - middle-rate performance
genügend - clear deficits, but able to reproduce main contents of the lecture with support
nicht-genügend: inacceptable lack of knowledge on the lecture content

Examination topics

All material discussed in the lectures.
