Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The lab course "Metabolic Phenotyping" involves basic coneptual aspects and experimental procedures to analyse metabolites of sweat from the fingertips. The participants will plan and perform an experiment. Samples will be prepared, collected and processed. They will be analysed using mass spectrometry and the data will be evaluated.
Assessment and permitted materials
Participation and oral exam at the end of the lab course. The oral exam involves a summary of the lab course content, focussing on the analysis of sweat from the fingertip, sample preparation, Analysis, Evaluation, Purpose etc.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The participants are expected to learn key concepts with regards to the analysis of sweat from the fingertip and also discuss Pros and Cons of the method. The participation during the lab course will also be evaluated.
Examination topics
Publications about metabolic phenotyping will be provided, as well as background information with regards to chromatography and mass spectrometry.
Reading list
The lecture is based on research articles about the analysis of sweat from the fingertips and background information about chromatography/mass spectrometry, which are provided to the participants.
