Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Lipidomics is the science that deals with the concentration-dependent description of hydrophobic biomolecules in space and time in a specific system. You will be taught one of the most practical approaches to achieve this goal. This course focuses on LC-MS based lipidomics. However, this course will also deliver basic concepts how to identify small molecules, which you can also apply in other fields of analytical chemistry. In this course the following topics might be presented or worked out together: lipid structure and function, nomenclature of lipids, extraction and sample preparation, LC-MS lipidomics, evaluation strategies for identification and quantification. Critical examination and scientific discussion of research results.

Assessment and permitted materials

We will judge your coursework and commitment. At the end of the course, you must present your lab results in a short presentation.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Basic knowledge in data interpretation and statistics, concepts of mass spectrometry (lecture on mass spectrometry).
