Aims, contents and method of the course

Chemical bonding in solids (basic types of chemical bonding).
Crystal chemistry (crystal structures of elements and compounds, different types of intermediate phases, solid solutions).
Lattice defects (thermodynamics, non-stoichiometry, oxides, sulfides).
Thermal properties of solids (heat capacity, thermal conductivity).
Electrical conductivity in solids (ionic conductivity, semiconductors and insulators, metallic conductivity).
Organic solids

Oral Examination

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of solid state chemistry. Operational skills in the field.
