Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
http://orgchem.univie.ac.at/teaching/vo-orc/heterocyclische-chemie/Aromaticity of heterocyclic structures - Reactivity of aromatic heterocycles - Reaction mechanisms, ring closing reactions for the synthesis of important structure types (pyridines, quinolines, pyrroles, indoles, azoles, ...) - Modern (industrial) drug syntheses.
Assessment and permitted materials
Written (or oral) exam
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Heterocyclic structures can be found in drugs, dyes and numerous important industrial products. Aim of the lecture is to provide a basic understanding of aromatic heterocyclic chemistry. The discussion of various drug syntheses should consolidate the atteined basics as well as new and advanced synthetic methods will be provided.
